Samford Gives Back is a campus-wide service initiative organized by the Office of Student Leadership and Community Engagement and Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honor society The mission of Samford Gives Back is to partner the Samford community with organizations that are committed and working towards the betterment and restoration of the greater Birmingham community. Each Samford Gives Back volunteer will receive breakfast, a t-shirt, and 4 Convocation Credits.
8:00 AM sharp - Breakfast and devotional in Seibert Stadium (Rain location - Seibert Gym)
8:40 AM - Depart for work sites
*Note: SU ID cards will be swiped as students leave for their sites. Students MUST bring their ID cards in order to receive Convo Credit!
9:00 AM - Arrive at work sites and begin service
1:00 PM - Wrap up service
Most students who participate in Samford Gives Back will do so as part of a group. Groups may be registered student organizations or informal groups such as residence halls, friend groups, etc. Each group must have a Group Leader who is willing to coordinate the service opportunity and submit group members' info using this form. Groups are responsible for finding their own sites at which to serve. Before contacting an organization, please notify Laura Breedlove at email@example.com. Please note that you must verify that your serve site can accommodate the number of volunteers you register. The Group Leader or a group representative must pick up a packet and attend a brief, mandatory Group Leader orientation on one of the following dates:
Tuesday April 14th from 10-11am in Divinity South 111
Tuesday, April 14th from 6-7pm in the Howard Room
Important Considerations for Groups:
If your group already has an established relationship with an organization, or is involved in some specific field of philanthropic work, we desire for your group to continue working with that organization/cause on Samford Gives Back, or we would like for your group to seek out an organization whose work coincides with your philanthropy. Samford Gives Back is a day of partnering and service, and we want groups to continue strengthening their already-established partnerships, or for groups to begin developing partnerships with organizations whose work align with their groups.
Don't have a group? Individuals can sign up for service sites beginning Tuesday, March 31st outside UC116. Participants are encouraged to sign-up early as space is limited. For questions specific to individual registration, please contact Laura Breedlove at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Each volunteer will be responsible for his/her own transportation on the day of the event. Students are encouraged to carpool to and from the service sites. Group Leaders are responsible for ensuring that all group members have transportation and directions to the site.
Please feel free to contact Laura Breedlove, Samford Gives Back Advisor, at email@example.com. Visit the Office of Student Leadership and Community Engagement online at www.samford.edu/leadership or our office in UC 116E for additional information.

The Office of Student Leadership and Community Engagement seeks to recognize Samford students for their outstanding contributions to campus and community through the Student Leader Spotlight program.
Students, faculty, and staff are invited to nominate student leaders by submitting this form online. Nominations will be accepted on a rolling basis and a committee will select 1-2 students for each month's Spotlight. Nominations must be submitted by the end of the month to be considered for recognition the following month. For example, nominations submitted by September 30th will be considered for October's Spotlight.
Please note: Nominated students are NOT required to hold "official" leadership positions. The purpose of the Spotlight is to recognize students who may not receive recognition otherwise. The committee is looking for students who have recently demonstrated outstanding leadership on campus or in the community. Depth and intentionality of leadership, as well as uniqueness of the student's contribution, will be considered when selecting Spotlight recipients.
