Welcome to the web site for the Samford University chapter of the Student Society for Health-System Pharmacy!

SSHP is the student branch of the Alabama Association for Health-System Pharmacists. The group was formed for students to learn more about health system pharmacy practice and to meet with practicing pharmacists to discuss issues pertinent to this field.

We meet monthly during the school year to gain exposure to the wide world of health-system pharmacy through our guest speakers. Last year, for example, our guests' areas of expertise ranged from Information Technology to Hematology/Oncology and included the current AlSHP president (an investigational medicine pharmacist) as well as a 2009-2010 PGY-1 resident.

SSHP also provides annual service opportunities for its members. These include a stuffed animal drive for patients at Childrens' Hospital and, more recently, a Top 200 Drug Name Spelling Bee to benefit the MSOP student relief fund. For the last two years during the fall semester, SSHP members have set up an influenza clinic at the VA hospital in Birmingham in conjunction with the VA's PGY-1 residents; last year over eighty veterans received the flu vaccine at our event.

We look forward to another exciting year at MSOP as we welcome the Class of 2015 and welcome back all current students!
