Welcome to the website for the Samford University chapter of the Student Society for Health-System Pharmacy!
SSHP is the student branch of the Alabama Association for Health-System Pharmacists. The group was formed for students to learn more about health system pharmacy practice and to meet with practicing pharmacists to discuss issues pertinent to this field.
We meet monthly during the school year to gain exposure to the wide world of health system pharmacy through our guest speakers. Our guests' areas of expertise range from Information Technology to Hematology/Oncology and have included the AlSHP president (an investigational medicine pharmacist) as well as PGY-1 residents.
SSHP also provides annual service opportunities for its members. These include a stuffed animal drive for patients at Childrens' Hospital and, more recently, a Top 200 Drug Name Spelling Bee to benefit the MSOP student relief fund. For the last two years during the fall semester, SSHP members have set up an influenza clinic at the VA hospital in Birmingham in conjunction with the VA's PGY-1 residents; one year over eighty veterans received the flu vaccine at our event.
Please join us for another exciting year at MSOP!
